I was reading Philippians this morning and read a verse that I've read many a times in my life but today it kind of stopped me and got me thinking.
Philippians 2:12-13

I often find myself trying to rely on my own wisdom and strength (which always causes me great disappointment because I'm far less wise and far weaker than I realize) and not relying on God who works in us to "will and to do" what He wants us to do. Even as a professor of the reformed faith I forget that God is sovereign over my sanctification and I really ought to pray along the lines of this verse. I fully realize my responsibility to do what I ought to do (see the first half of the stated passage) but it's so easy to forget the last half and try to "work out my own salvation" by myself.

The great thing about this passage is the fact/promise that God works in us when we do what we are suppose to be doing, namely, "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." Actually, as I've found, God graciously works in us even when we aren't doing what we are suppose to be doing!

Praise God for His mercies.

See, it's easy! (though I'm not sure I like the word "pithy" being applied to our comments. I think a change to the blog code is in order. Of course, those reading this after I make the change will wonder what I'm talking about. "pithy" will be gone. :-)

The Nameless Blogger
Well, this is my first attempt at anything even closely related to blogging. Our new "Blog Meister" Doug the Magnificient says that it's easy...so here goes nothing.

It seems to me that the first thing I need to do is get a catchy name. Most of the Blogs I read have been penned by folks with very witty, almost whimsical names. Hmm... I'll really have to ponder this one for a while.
